Welcome to RDNMama.com!

I am Kelly Houston, MS, RDN, LD – a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and mama to three. This site is a merging of my professional experiences as a dietitian and my personal experiences as a mother. Trying to healthfully feed a family can be challenging – there is so much misleading information!  My goal is to give you the tools you need to make the best choices for yourself and your families. I feel that by creating healthy women, we can create healthy families, which will lead to healthy futures.

Women are the cornerstone of the family. They traditionally are making most food choices for their children and spouse, packing lunches, and planning dinners. With as much as they take care of everyone else, it is equally important that they take care of themselves as well. My interest in prenatal and infant nutrition intensified when I became pregnant during my second semester of graduate school. I just so happened to be taking a pediatric nutrition class. I was astounded to hear such facts as parents giving their infants sodas or “fruit drinks” with virtually no nutritional value. My hope is that my children’s generation can grow to be healthier than their parents.

I have seen firsthand, both professionally and personally, the negative effects of poor nutrition. I want to stop molehills from turning into mountains. My philosophy is that by making small changes now, big changes in the future can be avoided. The earlier healthy habits start, the better they stick.

My educational background:

Bachelors of Arts: Biology from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville, IL

Didactic Program in Nutrition & Dietietics: Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO

Dietetic Internship: Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO

Master of Science in Human Environmental Sciences (Specializing in Human Nutrition): University of Alabama, Bama by Distance Program

Additional Training:

I aim to help women enjoy food. I am very interested in continuing to learn about nuance in different ages and health conditions.

As your dietitian, I can promise you this: I will never stop learning all that I can to help my clients live their best lives.
